Mechanical

Peugeot began their manufacturing venture in the beginning of the 1800s when they began making kitchen equipment and hand tools. The company began by manufacturing umbrella frames and wire wheels before moving to bicycles. They were the first to use rubber tires in 1892.

By 1900 they had added a range of cars to their production line. The first models were essentially horseless in appearance, and were driven by a tiller. During this period, Peugeot also branched out into motorcycles.

In the age of modern Peugeots keys, they are more than mere mechanical pieces of metal. There is also an embedded transponder chip that has additional security features to stop thieves from stealing your car's hotwire. If the key is lost or damaged the car won't start and a warning message will appear on the dashboard.

If you see an orange warning light which appears to be waves with the thermometer floating over it that is displayed on your dashboard, it is most likely your Peugeot telling you that the engine is hot. This could be caused by leaks in the cooling system, or excessive acceleration. If this happens you must stop and let the engine cool down. If the problem persists and you are unable to resolve it, you must contact a Peugeot mechanic as soon as you can.

Another issue that is common is the red warning light that displays two cars and stars with a red outline under. This means your Peugeot's forward collision detection system has to be turned on.

Transponder

Before transponder keys became a standard feature in automobiles it was relatively easy for thieves to rob your car. They could simply push your ignition switch into the on position and then start it up. This is however no longer possible as most modern cars come with an anti-theft system that includes security chips embedded in the key.

The key's microchip is a miniature electronic device that has a non-volatile memory (meaning it won't erase after the power is cut). The chip is a serial number, which is used as the "password" to turn on the engine. When  read here  insert your key into your ignition this chip will transmit the password to the receiver in your immobilizer. If the code is correct, your vehicle will start and you'll be off to the races.

If you lose your transponder key and you lose it, you'll need to go to a reputable locksmith to replace it. These locksmiths can use an instrument specifically designed to determine the frequency required from the chip of your transponder and then design a fresh one for you. This is usually less expensive than going to the dealership of your vehicle. Make sure you verify whether the locksmith you choose has this tool. Otherwise, you could end having to pay more than you need to duplicate your keys. Ask the locksmith if they're using a high-quality blank for your car model.

Peugeot cars are equipped with an immobiliser that is synchronised with the embedded glass chip in the key. The chip is able to store an individual code. If the chip isn't synchronised then the car won't begin and the engine will stop. If this happens, you'll be required to visit a Peugeot dealer and get a replacement key made to fit your vehicle.
